Sound Journeys

Sound Mandala monthly sessions have been held in various North London venues (The Old Church, Stoke Newington, British School of Shiatsu Do, The Hive, Dalston and at Yan's home in Harringay N4).
Also at London School of Economics, and as part of yoga workshops and retreats with Yoga Parinama.

What is a Sound Journey?

A passive and participatory experience, dealing with the physical and subtle body.
A safe magical space for anyone wishing to slow down, reconnect and revitalise.
Sound, relaxation, meditation, healing and imagination combined.

How it works

By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves making possible a down-shift of our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reaching theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep; where internal healing can occur).

The sound journey works with hypnagogic and lucid dream states, increasing sensitivity by bringing our focus mainly on hearing (called Pratyahara in the Yoga system). Ultimately being guided safely on a journey where we can float on waves of sound..

My background in teaching yoga, music composition / performance, kirtan and leading voice workshops allows me to offer a holistic nourishing experience on many levels.

The Sounds

We often begin by visualising our chakra centres using voice, followed by a return to balance with Himalayan bowls.
Then perhaps a cleansing jungle soundscape, exploring uncharted territories of creative sacred space through careful blending of multi-channel electronic and acoustic sounds.
A colourful mix of instruments are used, such as bells, shakers, rain stick, shamanic drum, harmonium, voices, loops, guitar, native american flute and bansuri.

The sound journey can be complemented by an aromatic immersion of de-stressing oils and purifying incense.

This is a facilitated space where you are invited to rest in awareness of sound for around 90 minutes.

The journey uses sounds that evoke place, environment or feeling.
Nature ambiance such as rainforest or seaside, and indiginous instruments made from natural sources (seed pods, cactus) are designed and used to work in spatially rich way. This distinguishes what I do from ambient music.

To put it simply, there is a strong and practiced intention for well-being and a sequence and techniques that have evolved to facilitate the optimal meditation experience.

The sessions are also available for corporate clients, schools and day centres. Please contact me for more details.

A Comfortable Space

Yoga mats, futons, blankets and pillows are provided for ultimate warmth and comfort.

Sound meditation can be practiced sitting still or laying down on a yoga mat. Comfort is essential to be able to let go of physical sensations and focus attention on the hearing sense. Sometimes a blindfold can enhance the sensory focus on sound.

What is Sound Therapy?

* It is a complementary medicine
* It can balance emotions
* It can also be seen to work on a physical level through vibration
* It causes a shift in brain wave state through entrainment, synchronizing to stable frequencies
* By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves allowing a down-shift of our beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reaching theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep; where internal healing can occur).

What can sound be used to heal?

* Sleep disorders
* Anxiety
* Depression
* Stress management
* PTSD
* Pain management

Through sympathetic resonance and entrainment, our state of consciousness is altered; stress is reduced, chronic pain addressed and the immune system strengthened.
